Welcome to my first tag!!!! I’ve never been tagged in a post before so I’m really honored that Annie over @ I LIVE AND BREATHE WORDS thought to tag me. That being said, the Mid-Year Book Freakout tag isn’t the one I was originally tagged in. The one I was tagged in is the Anonymous Bookaholics Tag. Since I don’t like how the term trivializes addiction, I decided to still do a popular book tag, but just changed out which tag (which means this is an inspired tag more than anything. whoops 😂). Anyways, let’s get started~
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017?
I’ve read an incredible selection of books this year, so this is an difficult question to answer. I’ve never given out as many 5 stars in a single year before.
Given all that, I’m picking When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore. While it might not be the best~ book I’ve read this year, it was the best book for me because it stretched my reading limits. I’m not a fan of purple prose, but after reading When the Moon Was Ours I know that when it’s done well I can actually enjoy it. The story itself was amazing too. I loved every aspect of it.
2. Best sequel of 2017 so far?
In 2017, I’ve read a lot more standalone than series & in general I don’t read as many series. Because of that, my favorite sequel is from a series that I never read the first book for. Go figure, I know. That book is Feels Like Summer by Six de los Reyes.
It also happens to be one of my favorite Romances. FLS is the perfect summer romance if you’re currently in a reading slump or disillusioned by New Adult.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?
I’ve had an ARC of GGTVAV since APRIL. And somehow I still haven’t read it. It has been one of my most anticipated reads in recent history, but I’m so busy right now that I can’t read it in one sitting like I want to. I’m weird about books I’m excited for. I have to be in the perfect setting/frame of mind to read them.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
I’m looking forward to a couple of books, but there is one in particular that I never thought we would get: the 1st book in the Book of Dust series by Philip Pullman! His Dark Materials means the world to me. It’s one of my favorite series of all time, so I’m super excited that we’re getting a prequel series.
5. Biggest disappointment?
2017 has been good to me reading wise so I only have one book that stands out and it was still a 3 star read. I got an ARC of I Believe In a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo when I was at LATFoB. While it wasn’t that bad, it ended up not living up to my high expectations.
6. Biggest surprise?
A Gentleman in the Street by Alisha Rai, for sure. I don’t read Erotica, but after seeing it highly recommended and then winning a copy in a giveaway, I decided to read it. The heroine is a Japanese billionaire, and there’s a stellar, feminist romance. It blew me away and the sex scenes were 🔥.
7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)?
Alisha Rai!!! I mentioned one of her books above. She has become a favorite of mine since first reading one of her books this year. She’s in my holy trinity of Romance writers that I trust (along with Rebekah Weatherspoon & Courtney Milan). I’m so excited that she has a series, Forbidden Hearts, with Avon coming out this year. She’s a must read if you’re looking for Romances with leads of color.
8. Newest Fictional crush?
Definitely Adam Bennet from Love On My Mind by Tracey Livesay. He’s a computer genius and the CEO for a tech company. While I’m not usually one for truly loving Romance heroes, I totally fell in love with Adam.
9. Newest favorite character?
I do not have a new favorite character because I’m very particular about favorite characters. None of the characters that I’ve read about recently are ones I would truly call a favorite character of mine.
10. Book that made you cry?
A Sadam Silvera book.
I honestly cried 100% of the time while reading More Happy Than Not. It was heartbreaking yet so reassuring. Adam portrayed internalized homophobia perfectly.
11. Book that made you happy?
My first Six de Los Reyes book: Beginner’s Guide: Love and Other Chemical Reactions. I loved that there was a STEM heroine trying to “science” love. Beginner’s Guide was a ton of fun.
12. Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year?
I actually haven’t seen any! I’m not a big movie go-er. Also, the recent book to film adaptations are for books I haven’t read or don’t care all that much about.
13. Favorite review you’ve written this year?
Writing my review for Feels Like Summer was the most fun because I also did a 5 reasons to read FLS as apart of the review. In theory, I should like New Adult books a lot more than I do, so it’s extremely satisfying when I can give an NA book a glowing review.
14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)?
Without a doubt, WILD BEAUTY!!!! I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of it. Anna-Marie’s books always have gorgeous covers.
Wild Beauty is 100% my favorite of her 3 books.
15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
SO MANY. I’m so behind on reading since I started blogging. I went too overboard with ARCs which led me to get behind on backlist books.
