Lacy Literacy

Book Reviews, Discussions, Listicles, More

As you may have noticed, I’ve been posting less reviews and less posts in general. There’s a reason for this. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been thinking about where I want Lacy Literacy to go (and maybe it’s because I just turned 19 and am having a ‘it’s my last year as a technical teen’ identity crisis. or maybe it’s because it’s almost my 6 month blog-iversary ).

I’m not currently happy with what I have been posting. Recently, I made a post further banning TBRs from this blog. After I made that decision, I began to think more about what other elements of my blog were holding me back from becoming what I truly want Lacy Literacy to be.

In an effort to keep this blog alive while I’m busy with school and general life stuff, I have cached up on meme posts has made blogging become very mechanical. I am not a fan of mechanical. Even my own Trope Tuesday meme has become monotonous, which is something I never envisioned happening because I love tropes so much.

Considering all that, there are going to be some big changes to the bookish content you see on Lacy Literacy:

1. New Theme

I already changed it!!! It has a new logo, layout and header. I’m pretty happy with it and it fits my “brand” a lot more. Check it out (AND YES, my header is an actual picture of me. that person reading Hold Me is me.)

2. New Graphics

This one is kind of a must. If you haven’t already noticed, my most recent post graphics look quite different from what you’ll usually see. Instead of the dorky lacy texture and Myriad Pro font, they are actual pictures of books. Shocking, I know.

This is the vibe I’m heading more towards. I’ve wanted to go more in the actual picture direction for a while and am excited to have the recourses to do it now. It feels more professional and I’m excited to play around with my camera more. I sticked to the dorky lace texture for so long because I wanted to incorporate the “Lacy” theme, but there are much better ways to do it.

3. No More Weekly Memes

Weekly Memes have become a bane to my existence. Every month I freak out about having to cache a bunch of Diversity Spotlight Thursday and Trope Tuesday posts so I don’t have to worry about working on them during the week. Because of that, the quality of those posts isn’t any where close to where they deserve to be (and you can probably tell from my last couple in which I’m completely burned out).

I will not be making anymore Diversity Spotlight Thursday posts. I love the idea behind the meme, but there are other ways I intend on featuring diverse books on here. And ways that I think are much more engaging than a pre-formatted post.

Trope Tuesdays will stick around, but they are getting a new look and schedule. I would never consider abandoning Trope Tuesday posts. The meme is my baby and I truly love discussing tropes. However, the frequency has made it hard for me to discuss them in the way I like. Of course, they will still be on Tuesdays but it will be once a month on a given Tuesday. The formatting will be similar in the description, example, and opinion way but it will look different. That’s all I’m saying for now.

As for Short Story Sundays… Many of you probably don’t even know what they are. They are a meme I created and then abandoned after one month. It became too much but I want to change that. I want to promote short stories because I adore them and there are such amazing stories out there that people just don’t know about. Whether I bring back the meme itself or just make more frequent posts about short stories is still up in the air, but expect more short story content.

4. More Original Content

With the lack of memes that will be present on my blog, it’s time to expect more original content like my favorite post of all time aka the STEM Heroines in Romance Mater List.

Expect more posts about why I read the books I read, how I read 800 books in one year, and why my favorite books of all time are all fantasy despite me NEVER reviewing fantasy and trashing the genre all the time. And expect more discussion posts cause I’m MORE than ready to dish out my opinions and see yours.

I’m super excited for this new chapter~ and to see where it takes us.

  2. I love the new look!

I also get what you mean about memes. When I started out doing them, I tried to spread them out so that I’m not posting the same meme every week, but I also know that I’m going to run out of topics for Diversity Spotlight Thursday and Trope Tuesday VERY SOON so we’ll see what happens from there.

I can’t wait to see where you go with all this 🙂

  3. Memes can get VERY mechanical and boring! It gets to a point where you feel like you have to make a post as opposed to actually wanting to, which is why I cut back a lot on the amount I post. Love the new blog look!
